Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, the right light.

Easily one of the most scenic Hindu Temple in Bali, Ulun Danu Beratan is located on the shores of Lake Beratan. Having visited 5 years ago during our trip to Bali, I always wondered how beautiful it would be in sunrise?

So for this second trip I tried to find out if it's possible as I know there's a entrance fee involve to enter the temple and they don't opened that early. Googling around doesn't really help as the official opening hour is stated at 8:00am. Even our experienced local driver can't confirmed as he only knows by the official opening hours of the temple. Surreal morning Not very encouraging but we plan to do it anyway. Waking up at 4am in the morning and setting off at 4:30am from Ubud, it took us about 1hr 15mins to reach. To our delight, we are allow to enter the places outside the temple! Just purchase a entrance ticket of RP 50,000 per person! And the experience is surreal, the calmness of the morning makes all the effort so worth it!

Our local driver is so amazed by the beauty of what he witness that morning that he is actually planing a sunrise tour after this trip!

Things to take note

Dress for the cold!

The temperature drop quite drastically in the morning, so be prepare for the cold temperature. I was in jean shorts and short-sleeve t-shirt that morning, clearly not great for that chilling temperature!

Know the positions!

Use your digital compass on your mobile phone to know where the sun is rising so you can position yourself with your camera for the right moment! Check the weather forecast!

We are lucky that morning as the security guard told us that the previous few days weren't that great for sunrise with heavy fogs and sometime raining.
